Sammy (2969), Toronto, Ontario, Canada May 6, 2007 On tap at the brewpub. I like this style’s sass and spiciness, of which this was an over-reach of skill and not a great rep of the style. Reddish colour, overcarbonated and off taste. More maltiness than anything else. Dickinsonbeer (2480), Hoboken, New Jersey, USA May 4, 2007 Pours a cloudy turbid coppery brown with a thick fluffy beige head which fades to a film. Aroma is dirty and yeasty, doughy, thick bready malts, light caramel, and some earthy spice and hops. Doughy slightly dirty and earthy flavor with some spice, smooth light sweet malts, herbal, and slightly bitter. Dirty and messy but still pretty smooth, and kind of reminded me of a biere de garde I made a few years ago. Somehow this started to taste even better with some food.
