4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Generously shared by Diego many moons ago, this was a must-try beer for me and I cannot say I was disappointed, even though it was nowhere near the best sour I’ve ever tried. An interesting merger of the roasty, malty character of a stout and the fruity acidic qualities of kriek. Bullfrog certainly went bold for this one, and I long for the day where they recreate this beer so I can try it at peak freshness.

BA Review #1000!!! HUGE thanks to korsak aka akorsak for busting out this beauty at Ffej of July XIII
Wasn’t even sure there was any more of these floating around the area, an honor to use this one as #1000, let along sitting next to the guy who brewed it.
Pours deep dark brown bordering on pitch black with a one finger tall tan head, quickly dissipating down to a thin film across the top, leaving small streaks of lace down the sides of the glass.
Smells of tart cherry skins, dark roasted chocolate malt, musty basement, some mineral earth from said basement floor, bit of barnyard from the brett and only a touch of oxidation. Taste is fairly similar to the nose but in varying amounts. The cherry and chocolate notes are consistent with the nose while the brett flavors are stronger and the mineral and must are dulled a bit. As it warms up quickly some bitterness reminiscent of coffee beers comes through along with a bit of lactic twang. Feel has a decent pucker but also plenty of roast, very nicely balanced across the board.
Overall this is exactly how I pictured it being. It is amazing how a perfectly cellared bottle can hold up. The cherries and dark flavors meld very well together and the brett really brings it all together. Easily one of the best dark sours I have ever had. Huge thanks again to korsak for bringing this one to the party!

Oh thank you oh so much to Wendy for bringing this to me.
This was poured into a snifter.
The appearance was a slight dark brown color with a one finger white foamy head that dissipated within about a light lacing to die at a nice pace.
The smell had a fairly decent black cherry - is sort of weird bland to sour sort of tart weirdness going on.
The taste was mainly a weird combination of sweet to tart/sour blend of black cherry sort of weird arrangement.
On the palate, this one sat about a light to medium on the body with a fairly decent sessionability about it. The carbonation was slightly there for the style and to me was okay.
Overall, uh...just okay kind of beer, nothing to go bonkers about, nice to try but since I live where I live it’s only a matter of time before I can back to PA to try this on tap.

Bottle. Pours a deep black body with thick carbonated brown head. Aroma is great - black cherry, grape, light roast an oak. Mouthfeel is medium sweetness with not acidity (thankfully), and notes of Muscat grapes, cherries, sweet roast, light funk and oak.

Bottle compliments of big daddy frank, shared with James, al, and Eric. Pours black with medium coffee colored head. Random but light lacing. Aromas are oak, Cabernet grapes, roast, cranberry, currants, blackberry, funk, and some lightly acidic fruits. Flavor is bitter and funky with grapes, cherry, barrel, and complex vino. Good bit of roast. Medium body, lightly sticky. Reminds me of Edith meet cuvée Tomme. Banging .
