As the story goes, I was redesigning our IPA to be bigger and better. As it came together, it started to take on a life of its own. After much deliberation and several pints of our new creation, we decided to name him after the master of the macabre, Edgar Allen Poe, as a tribute to his aptly named short story "Hop Frog". As Edgar fermented and spewed his almost abusive hop aroma throughout the pub, his legend and our thirst grew until finally one day, he was released into the world. We hope Edgar amuses you as much as he has us but stay on his good side, because, much like the story, this Hop Frog bites back!

Draught at Capones. Orange amber body with thin head. Aroma is a strong hoppy bite to the nose, malty. Flavor is the same with a strong after taste. Pretty good IIPA.

The words are TOO DARN HOPPY! Wow, and not in a pleasant and enjoyable way either. This was tear your head off and laugh at you beer. Not to my liking at all.

Draft at Capone’s. Hazy amber/orange. Pine and grapefruit hops with a big caramel backbone. A touch if fruit (closest to apricot). Bitter and alcoholic finish.

Draft at Capone’s. Clear amber color with whitish head. Aroma of heavy wet hops, citrus, black pepper, and mild floral wafts. Tastes wet hoppy, sticky and piney, with a fresh citrus mid-palate, and some peppery and floral notes in the finish.

Draft sample at Pints for Pets. Hazy dark gold with slight orange, little head, rimming and white. Nose is huge grapefruit. Lots of hop flavor. Grapefruit. A moderate bready background and moderate bitterness. Dry and resiny finish. DIPA heaven , but not crazy progressive. Good beer.

In short: A very juicy fruity (grapefruits mainly) hop-fix. Unbalanced, simple but quite drinkable.
How: Tap at brewpub
The look: Partly cloudy blonde body with a big beige head.
In long: Lots of grapefruit on the nose. Taste is more of the same. Very juicy with lots of grapefruits, some mangos and some citrus fruits. The grapefruit character of this beer is amazingly close to biting in a real grapefruit. Forget about caramel maltiness or anything else. This is hop juice galore. Yes it is a an unbalanced hop-fix but yes it is refreshing and pleasant. Such a nice gentle likeable IPA should have been named after Dr Seuss, not Edgar Alan Poe.

From growler - medium orangeish color - off white head. Big hop aroma, citrus, grapefruit, fresh cut grass, wood, and other fruits. Bold hop flavor that exploded on the tongue. Body was slightly resiny, but smooth . Clean, dry finish.

Draught at the brewpub. Pours opaquely cloudy orange gold with beige head. The aroma is toast, mango, citrus and pine. The flavor is very toasty with bitterness almost immediately. Not as fruity as the aroma. Some dark pumperknickel like malt lingers there, too. Dry, earthy finish.

Poured hazy orange with off white head. Aroma of citrus and hops. Good hop character with some pine and citrus hints.
