As the story goes, I was redesigning our IPA to be bigger and better. As it came together, it started to take on a life of its own. After much deliberation and several pints of our new creation, we decided to name him after the master of the macabre, Edgar Allen Poe, as a tribute to his aptly named short story "Hop Frog". As Edgar fermented and spewed his almost abusive hop aroma throughout the pub, his legend and our thirst grew until finally one day, he was released into the world. We hope Edgar amuses you as much as he has us but stay on his good side, because, much like the story, this Hop Frog bites back!

The first beer from Bullfrog I’ve really liked. I’ll be tasting this one for hours. Lots of pine on the nose. Nice grapefruit notes on the tongue. Finish is subdued which increases drinkability.

A really aeromatic IPA with strong flavors, hints of fruit (but only overly fruity, I don’t like fruit beers). Good taste and goes down clean.

5oz sample from a flight. Pour is cloudy gold with a finger of white, slowly dissipating head, which left a bit of lacing as well. Nose is an explosion of flowers and citrus, which is followed by a sweet orange fragrance; there is also light malt in the background. Taste is big hops up front, which is followed by the orange/floral punch that lingers long into the finish. This is a very solid DIPA, one that is easily worth purchasing a case of.

On tap at the brewery served in a 5oz glass. Pour was a cloudy yellow with no head and minimal lacing. Nose strong floral hops, citrus and malts. Taste was much like the nose though I’m not big on ipa’s this one was quite nice with just the right amount of hops.

A: Pours a copper color with a nice white head. S: Fairly hoppy leaning more toward floral and spice, but nothing too overwhelming. T: A nice bitterness, but not as much as I would expect from an (D)IPA with this much alcohol. The hops that are present are quite nice, but nothing too overwhelming. M: Medium-bodied with a hefty dose of carbonation. D: Very, very drinkable considering the high abv and substantial hop presence. Serving type: on-tap Reviewed on: 02-17-2010

Amber-golden pour. The nose is very citrusy with a kiss of pine, resin and light orange peel and grapefruit. Very fresh and rich. Lots of bright citrus and some lingering resinous character. Chewy mouthfeel with lots of resiny bitterness. Full-bodied with a long lingering hop finish. A most excellent IPA – I wish this was more local to me.

Bottle:   Dirty caramel, at least this last bit of the bottle, large frothy off-white head, sticky lacing.   Sweet candied citrus peel on the nose.   Hops are there, minor.   A bit of that powdery sugar aroma as well.   Candyish citrusy pale hop sweetness on the tongue.   Seems barely an IPA, and a sweet one at that.   Not very heavy, not very hoppy.   Not a bad beer, but not what I was expecting.   Finish leaves a little bit to be desired.   This seems like just a standard IPA, thats a bit more sweeter than most.   Enjoyable, but not the IIPA variety I was expecting.

Sampled at the brewpub. Pours a hazy orange, amber with a tight, white head. Nose of C-hops, citrus fruits, malty, resinous hops, earthy. Flavor of fresh citrus, oranges, lemon zest, grapefruit, sticky hops. Full bodied but super drinkable.

Draught, 8% at the brewpub. Good grapey and caramelly, slightly sweet hop aroma. Cloudy orange colour. The flavour is nicely hoppy, grapey, caramelly. Quite bitter, clean and good.

tap @ bullfrog - peachy, caramel malts, citrus, lemony hops in the nose. Fruity lemon, orange caramel malts with a smooth mouthfeel and a hot finish. Some bitterness hangs out on the tongue.
