Bottle shared by JCB. Nose is great. Caramel apple, big time. But the apple appears to be green and tart, as even the nose reveals it’s going to be sour. This isn’t really a good thing for the beer, though. It’s weird. And cloudy as hell. I swear the masses of funk at the bottle had the slightest green/gray tint... tadpoles?

Bottle thanks to ? Pours a near clear auburn with a medium off-white foamy froth. Medium sweet urinal cake aroma, bretty, floral, fragrant botanicals, maybe some spearmint. Flavor is kind of minty, bretty, super dry, chalky. Thin bodied with too much carbonation.

bottle from trade from BA. poured a cloudy amber with a wonderful off white head. aroma of citrus, tart, and something funky i couldnt place. flavor was pretty much the same, stuff going on that i coulndt place. light body with high carbonation.

i think Beerlando shared this one, can’t remember sorry! Sour funky aroma, very Fantome-like! Pour amber with a white head. Spicy caramel malts with funky flavors, barnyard flavors, a lot of brett character. Very interesting beer!

On draft at the brewpub. Pours a hazy orange amber caramel with a med white head. Aroma of funk, earthiness, zesty lime and grains. Taste of honey, funk, zesty lime, grains and light fruit. Has an earthy ground feel to it.

750ml bottle cork and caged.
There’s an explosive bang when the cork is popped and this one is a slight gusher. Pours a deep, dark ruby red/chocolate caramel brown color with some coppery hues when held to a light source and a massive three finger frothy, soapy light beige head. Excellent retention, only slowly fading into a lasting cap. Large chunks of soapy lacing are left behind.
Slightly earthy aroma with a prominent malt aroma and hints of zesty spice, syrup and bready yeast. Lots of caramel malt alongside a slightly funky presence in the nose with dark fruit and pepper notes. There’s also a sweet green apple character alongside the dark fruit notes.
Soft carbonation up front with a slightly chewy medium body that has a nice balance of zesty spice, dark and light fruit and leathery malts. Much darker and fuller bodied than other biere de gardes I’ve sampled. Pretty complex with a lot of peppery spice, dark fruit, caramel malt and sweet light fruit. Slightly tart with a dry finish and you can really taste the sweet green apple flavor. I find a lot of beers in this style light, watered down and boring but this beer is the extreme opposite. Full bodied with a lot of heavy flavors, yet still highly quaffable.

bottle pours deep gold with a medium white head. Aroma is fruity with lots of yeast character. Flavor is fruity, raspberry, strawberry and a lingering sweet berry finish.

Goblet pour @ the brewpub. Color us a very red and pink hued brown, thick, cannot see through it yet it radiates just a little bit. This was an interesting beer, not sure what kind of yeast did all this. The aroma is like cheery pie crust and cola mixed together. A weird combination of malts and yeast, cool and different. It is similar in flavor but is a bit muffled by the strong carbonation. However, the carbonation helps offset the thicker mouthfeel, this juxtaposition adds nicely to the original structure of the beer. The flavor get s a bit earthy vegetable (in a good way) as well. I would be interested to see this recipe.

The aroma has apple pie and musky notes. The appearance is maroon amber with a thick body and a bubbly white head. The flavor is musky, malty, a bit sour funkiness. It settles very musky on the tongue.
