Commercial Description:
Brewed in Belgium's famous Trappist style, this ale starts with a complex fruity aroma of rasins, rum, toffee, and spice. On the palate the dark rich malts explode in a burst of effervescence that cuts through the sweetish middle to reveal a dry, slightly winey finish.

Good stuff. Dark colored, medium bodied. Somkey and creamy malt flavor with a light peppery finish. Lightly sweet, well balanced taste. Alcohol is completely hidden. Highly drinkable.

Draft @ Bullfrog. Pours a dark, murky cola-brown color; light tan head with excellent, fine-bubbled lacing. Brown sugar, pepper, and esters in the aroma; a solid dubbel profile. Very lively in the mouth: fluffy brown sugar, cola, and Belgian sugars; slightest creamy malt heft; well-attenuated, well-balanced, and very drinkable; none of that abrasive brown sugar or muddled character of lesser dubbels; straightforward and solid. Lengthy, brown sugar and estery finish; some basic sugar and dough.

On tap at the brewery. Sweet malty roasted grains with light fruity esters and a nice bit of hops presence. Dark amber clear with and off-white lacing head. Medium-heavy watery body with medium carbonation. Great malt start, sweet with heavy malt presence, red licorice, mild diacetyl, some molasses and candi sugar. A bit of ozone burn which is odd, but overall a good sweet dubbel with some estery yeastiness.

Growler from Kramer17801. The pour is dark brownish and ruddy, with khaki head. Aroma of caramel scotchy malts, a solid dose of dark fruit (figs, cherry), banana, and some brown sugar. Medium palate with caramel malt in the flavor, plus toffee, brown sugar, some cherry, figs, and a little finishing cognacy heat. Nicely done, and a solid selection for my Bullfrog cherry-popping!

On tap at BCTC. Deep reddish brown in color with a little off white head. Fruity malty aroma. Bananas, raisins and plum notes. Fruity spicey flavor. Raisin and peppery notes. Finish is dry. Sweet. Medium bodied. Nice beer.

I am fond of Dubbels in general but was a bit underwhelmed by this one. Sampled on draft at the brewery this beer poured a medium dark brown with a medium sized tan head. The aroma is sweet and sugary with a hint of alcohol burn. The flavor is sweet with heavy Belgian candi sugar notes. The malts are milder than I would expect from this style. The alcohol burn dominates this one too much. The finish is a bit sharp and biting.

Poured a burgandy color with a thin, off white head that left light lacing on the glass. Aroma of banana chips, coconuts, and yeast. Taste of raisins, prunes, cherries, and yeast, peppery alcohol leading way to a dry finish.

Ommegang fest. Brown ale with a ginger aroma. Nice caramel malt with light balanced hops and smooth alcohol finsih. Some coriander notes. Pleasant.
