Aroma of caramel scotchy malts, a solid dose of dark fruit (figs, cherry), banana, and some brown sugar. Medium palate with caramel malt in the flavor, plus toffee, brown sugar, some cherry, figs, and a little finishing cognacy heat. Nicely done, and a solid selection for my Bullfrog cherry-popping! It presented muddy, river-bottom brown with a fizzy stir. Sweet brown-sugary aroma. Super sweet beer -- thick with flavor, but sugary sweet. But there’s also a definite sweettart feel to it as well. This is a super dark beer that flirts with the Belgian sour family. If you’re into that, it’s great. (#3472, 11/2008)
