Sampled at Noogfest High 5. Poured brown with a frothy off-white head that settled to a ring and left light lace. Toffee and butter popcorn aroma. The flavor had brown sugar and vanilla. Medium body, sweet, and warming.

22oz bottle thanks to Hopscotch for sharing this gem. This is my kind of barleywine. Nose tells you right away what this is. Huge cinnamon, brown sugar and raisin notes. Tons of liquid caramel and malt with hints of oak and wood. Flavor is intensely sweet up front with caramel and raisin notes. Lots of wood and vanilla in the middle. A modest bit of grapefruit hops makes a quick appearance. Finishes with some fruit and vanilla and a bit of brown sugar. Complex and drinkable. Really nice English Barley Wine.

750ml bottle. Pours a deep coffee brown with a good sized beige head leaving some sticky lacing behind. Nose of toasted caramel, toffee and faint hops in the background. Great flavor of candied tree fruits, caramel and toasted malts. A very underrated in my opinion, a tasty barley wine.

kkearn (1165) - Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA - AUG 27, 2009
Bottle. Pours murky brown, topped with a minimal tan head. Nice aroma, overripe dark fruit, caramel, brown sugar, grapefruit, toffee, and oak. Oak, grapefruit, vanilla, dark fruit, toffee, grapefruit and fruitcake are the primary flavors. Grapefruity hops and oak provide a long finish. Silky smooth, with minimal carbonation. The oak treats the barleywine well.

Slightly hazed deep amber pour. Dried fruit (dates & raisins). Fruity flavor of raisins with a hint of abv. Full bodied with good carbonation. Like raisin juice on steroids. Yum.

Thanks to Trevor (the other one) for a splash of this stuff. It was definitely big, and hugely sweet. Dark fruits and caramel without any roast, some hop bitterness toward the end but this one was extremely malt-forward. The oak held off until the aftertaste, when you could just get a hint of it. Lots of brown sugar, some spices - I really thought this one was like a baked good, though the 9% wasn’t covered too well, and it was a little flat. Interesting. Good, especially if you like sweeter barley wines.

Pours brown, or deep red, depending on how the light is hitting it. Very little tan head formed from the pour, and its hard to conjure up any with an aggressive swirl. The second glass did a bit better. Warm alcoholic nose full of ripe fruit and mild oak. Big time malt here with plenty of left over sweetness and pleasent oxidation. Really fruity and chewy. Full body and balanced in the finish. A barley wine lovers barley wine.
