This belgian style white ale is harkening back to a time before wild yeast had been eliminated from wit beer ,and before corriander and orange peel had become it’s dominant characture. Brewed with barley,wheat,oats ,and fermented with a blend of 3 yeast strains that lend a spritzy,citrusy flavor. Oud Witte is a refreshing summer thirst qencher as well as a personal tribute to Pierre Celis. The man who single handedly revived the style from fading obscurity to the popular beer known and enjoyed world wide.

Draft at the Brewpub with Andrew, Brendan and big boy PJ. Pours a cloudy yellow with white lacing. Aroma is light wheat. Mouthfeel is medium and creamy with notes of wheat and citrus.

Tap. Cloudy pale yellow body with a small fizzy white head. Some light lacing. The nose is quite funky and unusual for a Wit, lots of great yeast complexity overlaying the wheat and the minimal spicing. In fact, I don’t get any coriander at all. The flavor is very funky as well, almost Saison like with the yeast profile. The wheat really shines thru as well without all those all too often over utilized spices. Nice light and refreshing mouthfeel, a perfect summer refresher. Really, really good beer.
