santoslhalper (166), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA May 19, 2008 On top at pints for pets. Cloudy copper with a soapy white head. Spicy, ginger, bready and funk nose. Caramel sweet and spicy taste. Good carb. Tasty brew!
kkearn (611), philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 17, 2008 750mL cork-finished bottle. Pours a chestnut color, with a huge, frothy tan head. Aroma is primarily yeast, with fruit (primarily apple), caramel malt, and brown sugar. Caramel malt flavor is complimented by citric fruit, black pepper, and bread yeast. Some plum comes through towards the finish. I found this a bit too sweet at first, but it improved greatly as it warmed. acrdz (4248), Pennsylvania, USA Jul 30, 2008 750ml bottle. Loud pop of the cork and a bit of a foam up the neck but not overflowing. A tan head quickly grows in the glass, the thing is obviously over-carbonated due to bottle conditioning, and the nose is half apple juice and half minerally, dusty, funky yeast... and I say funky not at all in the good sense of the word. So it tends to settle out into sort of a straight apple juice nose, sweet, fruity, minerally apples. With some of the carbonation shaken out of the glass, it flows over the tongue with a medium to light body, somewhat dissipating over the back, flattening, and the flavors are generally mild and settle on an apple/graham cracker/toast flavor. Fairly simple overall, but other than the over-carbonation of the bottle, there’s little to complain about. Unfortunately, there’s also little to get excited about. kmweaver (1948), Takoma Park, Maryland, USA Jun 13, 2008 Draft @ Bullfrog. Pours a slightly hazy, reddish tea color; very light tan head with patchy, fine-bubbled lacing. Tea-like malts and some breadiness in the aroma; surprisingly bland, like watery tea. Medium mouthfeel following the aroma, lots of tea and bready malts without much development of flavors; basic watery tea with minimal tannins. Disappointing. Medium finish: bready malts, tea, and a touch of red fruits. kramer (1864), sunbury, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 11, 2008 10 oz, at brewery, listed as "Red Star Amber". Pours a slightly hazy amber with a one finger creamy beige head, nice retention. The nose is both fruity and hoppy with a fair amount of yeast influence. Figgy and caramel maltiness up front fades to a decent amount of yeast influence and some light hoppiness on the finish. Medium bodied with a slight clinginess and moderate soft fizzy carbonation. Overall, pretty drinkable, but not a standout. Naka (407), Indiana, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 2, 2008 Sampled at Pints for Pets. Pours a hazy golden color with an almost amber hue. A thick off-white head with some decent lacing. Aroma has some spicy hops and some fruity esters, maybe some mango and peach. A little bit of funk. I thought there was a bit of an astringent citrus flavor. A nice sour yeast with an excellent bitter finish.
