3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 kkearn (1163) - Philadelphia, USA - AUG 17, 2008
750mL cork-finished bottle. Pours a chestnut color, with a huge, frothy tan head. Aroma is primarily yeast, with fruit (primarily apple), caramel malt, and brown sugar. Caramel malt flavor is complimented by citric fruit, black pepper, and bread yeast. Some plum comes through towards the finish. I found this a bit too sweet at first, but it improved greatly as it warmed.

From a bottle that is likely 3 years old. Brown-amber, a puffy off white foam. Aroma is dark pit fruits, caramel, toffee, some alcohol spicing, definitely a bit old. Taste is similar, cherry, fig, caramel, toffee, probably held this one too long.

750ml bottle. Walking up from the ’cellar’ I decided to open this on the porch since I don’t fully trust some corked bottles. I’m sure glad I did. This let out a huge pop followed by a long stream of beer. This one also kept creeping out of the bottle and was almost impossible to pour. Took a long time, but settled into a deeper and hazy amber color. Aromas of yeast, breadiness, earthy, and toasted caramel. Tastes of yeast, some fruitiness, caramel, and lighter earthiness.
