Dickinsonbeer (5076) - Hoboken, USA - JUN 8, 2010
Bottle shared at Glouglouburps after Mondial tasting 2010. Bottle thanks to Rciesla for sharing! Pours a hazy deep brown with a thinning film of a head. Aroma is caramel sweet, light burnt toffee, crystal malts, fruity light cherry and rasp mix, pedio cherry pie and mineral kick with some medium but not overpowery aceto cider vinegar which was actually nice- as it warms some oak comes through a bit. Flavor has more oaky character, but still a decent amount of malt leftover- still mostly fresh overall some cherry pie, pitty, flemish sour like for the most part, some modest acetic acid and some slight paint thinner as it warms a bit. Decent modest sour finish and overall fairly drinkable. Light carbonation and yeastiness suggests the yeast is still working- may take another year or 2 to get better.

Bottle. Bomber courtesy of James. Thanks, brother. Pours light chestnut brown opaque with some khaki beige head atop. Aroma of currants, red grapes, oak, raspberry, and funky must. Taste is soft cherry, currant, lemon zest, oaky dryness, and some rapberry bitter-tartness. Palate is fuzzy, tart, and pleasantly mild. Sweet, smooth, slightly tart finish. Excellent sour ale.

Bottle shared at Tower of Sour Power, I think this was DarkGuardian again. Bullfrog doesn’t make a bad beer. Sort of a cocky statement but everything I’ve had from them is just superb. Good sour aroma and flavor with a nice balance of fruit and sour tartness.

Bottle #150 A: Dark brown with a slight reddish hue. Slightly transparent around the edges when held to the light. Some yeast in suspension with quite a bit of debris settling in the bottom. Moderate sized off-white head forms with a vigorous pour before forming a nice skim with 80+% coverage. Nice bubbly ring. Spotty lacing. S: First blast is of slightly sour cherries. The fruit is followed by a nice earthy oak character along with hints of vinegar, red wine, and some brett to round things out. Suggestive of a moderately sour and tart flavor to come. T: The cherries fade a bit to the back as the red wine, vinegar and oak move toward the forefront. Nice level of acidity and tartness lifts the flavors to the tip of the tongue. The dark cherries lend some sourness toward the tail end of each sip. M: Smooth, medium bodied. Acidity, tartness and sourness are all present without being too punishing. All in all the beer is delightfully restrained in all aspects. A nice lingering funk is pleasant as well. D: A top notch flanders red. A great release with a great beer. Will savor my remaining bottles over the next few years.

750mL Bottle. Thanks Sean for sharing! A wafting, gentle soft creamy soured malt. This is delicate Hawbaker work at it’s finest. You’ve got to have a quiet mind to appreciate this. Soft, soft delicate ruby red malt with a well defined sour strain running through. Honey like sweetness leaves this one full of texture to play off the acidity. Good, good beer. These sours take focus, because if you’re quiet they’ll unleash a world of nuance.
