First tasted this at the Paisley Beer Festival in April 1991. Cask, gravity dispense. Dull black in colour with a slight open buff white head. Slight dark berry fruit in the short aroma. Thin mouthfeel and no lacing. Dark malts give a strong roast coffee note to start and then followed by bitter chocolate, liquorice and treacle notes. Dry bitter hop resins impart a dry dusty aftertaste. Finish has a dry almost smokey woody oak edge. A decent stout which tastes stronger than the ABV suggests.

Cask Stillage at the Town Hall, Stockport 30/05/2003 Black stout which poured very lively. Plenty of fruit and a slight roast finish which is smooth on the palate.

Well it certainly is dark. The aroma is of sour fruit. This stout is quite smooth in its malts without much character apart from a touch of fruit. This is dry and earthy on the palate and let down by some chemical taste to finish.
