3.1 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 pyrotim2000 (13) - - NOV 26, 2006
Apart from the other Strongbow varieties this is the only cider I’ve ever tried - and I like it. It has a nice bitter taste. When I poured it I got absolutely no head and the colour left a lot to be desired. But once it goes into the mouth it’s very nice.
2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 magdalar (475) - Zurich, SWITZERLAND - APR 24, 2012
Draught. Pours a super clear slight golden with no head. Smells sweet, of artificial apple. Tastes of a massive sweetness, slightly watery, very mild carbonation, lots of sugar, artificial apple, some acidity. Its a mildly alcoholic bad over sweetened apple juice.
1.3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 4/20 maneliquor (1188) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - NOV 25, 2011
Bottle from Mane Liquor. Bleh, unbelievable sweet stewed apples take over. Not for me but seems to be all over Australia showing that someone must like it
1.4 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 6/20 hawthorne00 (1435) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - OCT 10, 2011
Bottle, as Strongbow Original, 5% ABV. Clear yellow, mousse vanishes like a soft drink. Aroma is vaguely appley. Very sweet, tastes of stewed apples. No tartness. Drank this to confirm my memory of it. Pretty poor, but not really offensive.
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 ComradeK (526) - Blue Mountains, AUSTRALIA - OCT 31, 2010
355ml bottle. I didn’t see the pour, as I drank from the bottle, but I assume it looks much like Strongbow Dry. Smells and tastes like a typical macro cider - straight up apple and not a lot else. Still, for what it is, it isn’t bad.
2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20 Blockley (90) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - MAY 26, 2010
Bottle @ Bar
Poor form, Strongbow. Pours a flat, pale yellow. Smells strongly of artificial apple sweetness. The flavour is rather vacant, mostly overly acidic apple hints (only hints) with some bitterness thrown into the mix. There are far better ciders so stay away from Strongbow if you can (unless the alternative is Five Seeds).
1.9 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 Jade (311) - AUSTRALIA - MAR 24, 2010
Fizzy, champagne colour. Light aroma, hard to place. I expected a strong apple scent, but only mildly at best. Vey empty, weak taste to it. Nothing like some real quality ciders. This is drinkable, but I’m quite dissapointed.
1.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 4/20 motelpogo (5046) - Plzen, CZECH REPUBLIC - FEB 9, 2007
bottled. yellowish and fizzy, apple cordial aromas, gets up your nose a bit, oversweet and with a nasty methoish taste
1.5 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20 ALLOVATE (1708) - Butler, WA, AUSTRALIA - AUG 13, 2005
Tried this one after quaffing its bland brother ’Sweet’ and wondering where the cider part came in. Tasted from the bottle and poured into a tall stein. Transparent pale yellowish straw with soda like carbonation, so light and irregular I thought it was still. Overly subtle tinny and unclean acidic apple nose. The aroma of the ’Sweet’ was light on yet this was almost non-existent. Sweeeeetttt in the mouth, but in a table sugar way that doesn’t sit well with any apple flavoured bevvie. Light apple note, yet liquor is really all you have with this one, like an over attenuated kit cider from your local super market. Finish is crisp and only lengthened by a subtle gluggy pear note. Thin in body, gassy and lifeless one-dimensional cider that lacks in all aspects. Ready-To-Drink poser poison, and for Highlandlad, unusually and questionably this one was sweeter than the ’Sweet’. Macro swill indeed. (Strongbow Original, 5.0%)
1.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 4/20 highlandlad (1325) - Blue Mountains, AUSTRALIA - AUG 9, 2005
Another sugary macro cider. Very pale in the glass, with lively carbonation. The aroma is inviting for a commercial cider - a nice crisp balance of sour and sweet apple. As Aarleks points out, there are also oaky chardonnay notes. (The Scarborough chardonnay from the Hunter Valley springs to mind.) This is much sweeter on the tongue than the aroma suggests. It has that granular sugary Coca-Cola mouthfeel that personally I loathe in sweet ciders. Holy crap, if this is in the middle of Strongbow’s sweetness scale, their sweet cider must dissolve teeth. Their is some crisp apple acidity in there but it’s buried under a mountain of sugar. (Bottle - Strongbow Original Alcoholic Cider, CUB)
