   AROMA 4/10   APPEARANCE 3/5   TASTE 3/10   PALATE 2/5   OVERALL 6/20
GoufCustom (767) - HONG KONG - JUN 2, 2014

568 ml bottle bought at Market Place by Jason’s in Mei Foo.

Pale golden yellow colour; Three-quarter finger head and soapy white foam which fades in 30 seconds; Very small lacing and fizzy carbonation; Tart and light sweet aroma of sparkling white wine, with apple flesh, light pears, light yoghurt, strong tannic and light wood; Light sweet taste of light pear wine, with light apple, faint pear, very light tartness, moderate carbo and faint tannic; Light body, thin but slightly slick palate; Mouth feel is fairly thinned pear juice with obvious apple presence. Everything else is low, from sweetness, tartness and tannic, they are low-fi, inoffensive and unexciting, only it’s somewhat slick palate being the bright spot. Hmm… Fairly dry after taste. Very easy to mouth.

Comments: With so many sugars being listed as ingredients (fructose, glucose, concentrates fruit juice), it is surprising to have a very non-sweet, subdued, and unexciting ‘pear cider’ here. Like Magners, its taste is paper-thin, only a slightly thick body saves it from being a drain pours. For easy drinking only, otherwise it’s pretty useless.

Appearance: Clear golden, slightly green, straw with white bubble head when poured. Aroma: Pear, floral, mineral. Taste: Low/medium sweetness and acidity with medium tannins. Palate: Thick smooth texture, light body, average carbonation, abrupt dry, fairly sweet, pear, white wine like finish. Comments: Tasty. But fairly insipid. I may have had it too cold?

Bottle, pinched a few swigs from Sue, at the Neslon, Farnham 09/03/14. Pale blonde with no head. Nose is sweet, faint orchard fruit, hint of pear drop sweets. Taste comprises light pear and apple pangs, sugars. Medium bodied, light spritz, sweet close. Pretty dull and muted all round, just sweet light orchard chugging juice but can appreciate how folks may enjoy knocking this back on a hot day!

Pint bottle BB 16Jul15 Straw body, slight green tinge, no head Apple dominant aroma, bit of ripe pear skin there but it’s easy to miss. Light sort of body, lively carbonation, slight tannic edge. Reminds me somewhat of a lemonade soft drink on the body; tart apple, crisp pear flesh, hint of lemon. Quite lean overall. Bit more interesting than the basic cider, pears a bit of an afterthought though.

Deep yellow colour with almost no head, very fizzy. Smell is sweet, with pear notes and sugar. Taste is very similar, sweetish. Not so artificial like many other industrial ciders, but a little bit yes. Not for me.

Bouteille: Clear, lively carbonation, no head, greenish-golden coloured, sweetish-fruity nose - pears and grapes detectable plus - surprise - champagne-like bisquity traces; sweetish flavour with a light acidity, pretty light bodied; slightly lingering mild sweet-fruity finish ( with dried plums underneath) Sweet, but still drinkable…

Shared a 50cl bottle from a local drink shop. Too sweet and boring cider. No much I would like to repeat.
