Bunratty Meade, meade from white wine with honey and herbs added recreates Mead, the drink of the ancient Gauls and Anglo Saxons which was made from fermented honey and water. Mead soon made its way into the courts of the Four Kings of Ireland and no banquet was complete without it. This honey-based drink was believed to have powers of virility and fertility, and it became custom for the bridge and groom to drink Mead for one full moon after their wedding, hence the term "honeymoon". In Ireland today, it is still a tradition to toast to the bride on their honeymoon from the wedding feast. Bunratty Meade can be drunk chilled, before meals or as a relaxing after dinner drink. You may also enjoy Meade on the rocks with a slice of lemon. In the winter, nothing takes the chill out better than Meade as a hot toddy. And you may which to drink it at dinner with your chicken, turkey or game.

Poured a deep orange color, almost amber, with aromas of honey, light spice, flowers and herbs. Flavors were earthy and some honey with a touch of herbs and light spice. Decent mead overall, not the worst one i have had by far.

Sample pour. The mead is a darker amber. Good clarity. It smells strongly of honey and alcohol. The taste is more sweet honey. The alcohol still comes through, but not as much as the aroma indicated. Lingering sweet finish.

750 ml bottle. Bunratty! Ha. County Clare has loads of charm. Pours a clear amber color with some shades of darker colors, some sticky legs. Sweet floral notes. The flavor grew on me as it inebriates quickly: toffee, huge flowers and herbal flavor, some sticky sweet honey. Dandelions. Fairly drinkable despite being quite hot with heat and alcohol present. Dark amber with no head. Smells of sticky honey, brown sugar, strong alcohol and saffron. Full oily body. Warming effect. Sweet taste of honey, sugar, with a herbal note and a lightly bitter alcohol finish. Nice sweet mead but the alcohol is noticeable. Enjoyable. Maybe aged would lower the alcohol.

50cl bottle at home from Celtic whiskies, Dublin
Pale golden with Greek honey yoghurt aroma. V sweet a honeyed ice cider. Light bodied, hidden booze, just v sweet desert wine like with some earthy herbal notes at the back and long sweet finish.
