Cask; Special - November 2008 (Britannia Class Locomotive Series No 8). Reappeared July 2011.
A gentle-ish best bitter at heart, this beer was brewed with Mt Rainer hops from the USA.

On cask (gravity dispense) at Chelmsford Beer Festival on 15 July 2011. Gold. Loose but lasting white head. Some light biscuity notes in the aroma with touches of spicy hop. Peppery hop presence on the palate, developing a citric tang and strong late bitterness that lingers into the aftertaste. Slightly chalky / mineral and distinctly dry mouthfeel. Light but not too thin. Maybe a little austere for those who prefer a more aromatic hop experience but the firm, bitter grip suits me fine. I’m not at all sure this is the same beer as the identically named one that Buntingford released in 2008.

(Cask at Castle, Chancery Lane, London, 18 July 2011) Pale golden colour with frothy, white head. Malty, hoppy nose with grass, hay and citrus. Malty, hoppy taste with notes of grass, hay, citrus and a generous bitterness in the finish. Rather light body, quite dry. Refreshing and very tasty. Nice one.

Chelmsford Beer Festival. Clear light gold beer, residual white head. Light semi dry palate. Mild fine carbonation. Nice fresh tasting beer. Fresh mild hop, orangey with some grapefruit bitterness. Finishes dry and a little crisp. Mildly bitter aftertaste. Refreshing.

Cask conditioned - handpump - Malt Shovel Northampton A mid brown coloured beer with a nearly white coloured head. Plenty of coffee in the nose together with wood and sawdust. Very bitter coffee in the mouth. Possibly too harsh, but clearly well brewed.
