COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Occasional.
A strong brew, near black in colour with a heady blend of malts that gives it a rich, slightly roasty, malt character. Ideal for mulling on those cold, dark winter nights!

Cask@St. Albans BF. A decent porter. Has some lightly toffee-ish/caramelly sweetness at the start. Slightly roasty, with some light berry fruit characters and subtle smoke. Palate is light, but the flavour is quite interesting all the way through.

Cask (gravity dispense), St Albans Beer Festival, September 2007. Dark chestnut with a red tint. Subtle smoky malt and light chocolate in the aroma. Also a slight sharp snatch. More of the same on the palate. Some tart berry fruit and light hop bitterness too. Quite smooth mouthfeel but a fair amount of bite too. Easy drinking but plenty of character. Good.

A Mes rate: Gravicask at St. Albans Beer Festival. Dark, slightly translucent brown with an oily topping. Sweet malt, floral, fruity, caramel, slight diacetyl and generally missing a lot of what I like about the style. Drinkable and inoffensive but not what I expect from a good porter.

Cask gravity at St Albans BF 2007. Very dark brown. Choccy ness is a little subdued. Easy drinking porter, some berry, little bit of sour. Lovely though and I didn’t realise it was this strong.
