chris_o (4393), London, Greater London, England Jun 20, 2004 I had this a couple of days before Spiesy and I guess it wasn’t properly conditioned when I tried it. It smelt very strongly of tobacco - and I don’t mean that musky pipe smoke type of tobacco, more like old fag ends steeped in ditchwater. Curious vegetal notes. The taste was rather better, but still not great. Certainly not sweet. Must re-rate if I get he chance to try this in decent condition. Cask (gravity), Catford beer Festival.
Spiesy (2330), Global Citizen, Greater London, England Jun 15, 2004 Bottled bright from the Catford Beer Festival, 2004. Dark brown. Full roasted aroma and flavour. This beer was not sweet at all. Silky and well rounded in the mouth but not overly sweet. It’s aroma presented like the full deal stout but lacked the ash’y, dry rawness of a straight. After not finding it on the Buntingford website I gave the brewer a quick call to clarify the existence of the beer. Honey makes sense. The beer was smooth and succulent on the palate with strong stout flavours.
