COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Special - April 2006.
Having done St Patrick, we couldn't leave St George out of the picture - so this was our St Georges day brew. A traditional style bitter-ale. Trouble is, we can't help thinking our patron saint should be at least be an Englishman (can we say that?). But that would mean reverting to St Georges predecessor - St Edmund. And you can imagine which brewery would make much of that.

Gravity cask @ Reading Beer Festival 2006. Poor aroma. Robust earthy malts. Lacking hops in the finish. Not too great.

Cask (gravity dispense), Reading Beer Festival, April 2006. The name suggests a traditional bitter and that’s exactly what you get. And a pretty good one in my opinion. Copper coloured. Dry and mainly malty, with light, earthy hops. Easy drinking, but not soft. Nothing really leaps out of the glass at you; it just does its job in a solid, workmanlike way. Would show better in the saloon bar than at a beer festival.

Gravity at Reading beer festival 2006. Light brown, some froth. Nicely hopped Bitter. Clean and fresh, with only a small malt drag to finish.

Cask Conditioned at Reading BF 2006. Sweet and tasting of unfermented wort. I found this a little muddy and sloughtly unpleasent.

Cask @ Reading 06: Amber in colour. A bit stinky (sulphur). Mildly fruity, mildly earthy. Drinkable bitter.
