thewolf (5662), Kolding, Denmark Nov 7, 2009 Bottle. [thank you, Skortila]
Pours lightly hazy orange with a small, creamy, white film head. Aroma is kinda yeasty and vinious. Light dried fruits. Fat mouthfeel, low carbonation. Caramel, vinousness and lots of alcohol in the flavour. A touch of yeast, but the alcohol is far too dominating. Ober (1165), Bommelerwaard, Netherlands Oct 21, 2009 A little hazy amber/brown colored beer, with a beige head. There are UFO’s in the beer. The aroma of caramel with fruits like raisins. Some sweetness. The taste of caramel sweet. There is some bitterness and spices in the back with hints of alcohol. The aftertaste is sweet with bitter. Borresteijn (1351), Amsterdam, Netherlands May 22, 2009 On tap at ’t Arendsnest. Slightly hazy amber orange colour, off white head. Aroma is sweet, ripe fruits, alcohol, some malts. Flavour is very sweet, ripe fruits, alcohol, malts. Prickly alcohol finish. Medium bodied. One dimensional in taste and way too sweet for me. deyholla (508), Bloomington, Indiana, USA May 22, 2009 On tap. Poured golden with a white head. Aroma of fruits and sugar. Flavor is quite sweet and masks the alcohol well but its a bit sweet for my liking. TBone (6678), Pori, Finland Jul 22, 2008 Bottled
Hazy orange-amber color, small off-white head. Yeasty, mix of fruits, plum and candy sugar in the nose. Full-bodied. Very sweet (candy sugar) - yeasty, some dark fruits. Doesn’t show alcohol at all. A bit too sweet and one-dimensional. MiP (8793), Sønderborg, Denmark Feb 8, 2008 Bottle, 9.5%. Weak but quite sweet malt syrup aroma. Hazy red/chestnut colour. Very small head. Quite malty flavour, caramelly and sweet. Does not taste its ABV. Low carbonation, pleasant enough. A quite nice example of a malty barley wine, IMO. Good peppery aftertaste. thebeertourist (2753), Oslo, Norway Oct 16, 2007 Bottle at Quinn’s, Camden. greyish brown colour, a smallish white head. Fruity aroma, rather sweet, almost like chewing gum. Taste is is still sweet and sugary, but the fruit adds some complexity. Astringent bitterness underneath. Well-hidden alcohol. Not 100% convincing. reakt (938), Greater London, England Sep 20, 2007 Bottle @ Quinns. Deep amber with a thin bubbly white head. Sweet nose of toffee, malt, spice and orange. Candy sugar, yeast and a spicy hop finish, slightly unbalanced. Medium bodied. Nothing outstanding but it’s alright.
