Bottle, 9.5%. Weak but quite sweet malt syrup aroma. Hazy red/chestnut colour. Very small head. Quite malty flavour, caramelly and sweet. Does not taste its ABV. Low carbonation, pleasant enough. A quite nice example of a malty barley wine, IMO. Good peppery aftertaste.
2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 TBone (9414) - Pori, FINLAND - JUL 22, 2008
Bottled
Hazy orange-amber color, small off-white head. Yeasty, mix of fruits, plum and candy sugar in the nose. Full-bodied. Very sweet (candy sugar) - yeasty, some dark fruits. Doesn’t show alcohol at all. A bit too sweet and one-dimensional.
2.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 thewolf (8625) - Kolding, DENMARK - NOV 7, 2009
Bottle. [thank you, Skortila]
Pours lightly hazy orange with a small, creamy, white film head. Aroma is kinda yeasty and vinious. Light dried fruits. Fat mouthfeel, low carbonation. Caramel, vinousness and lots of alcohol in the flavour. A touch of yeast, but the alcohol is far too dominating.

Aroma has malt, pepper and pear. Sweetish taste with pineapple and orange. Full bodied and a good lacing, clean and fresh palate. Alcohol present, but well hidden. Not very complex, but pleasant enough and the best Burg can offer.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 MesandSim (7109) - London, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAY 10, 2007
A Mes rate:
Bottle sampled while watching Man U take the pistols out of Chelski at Stamford Bridge... you know where... Lightish brown with a VERY red hue and a slight film topping. Aroma is dominated by alcohol with notes of brown sauce and some very tangy sweet malt. Something very sweet and sour about it. Flavour is pretty much the same as the nose. Lashings of obvious but reasonably tasty alcohol. It’s drinkable but the alcohol is just too much. One for the beer monsters if you ask me...
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 JorisPPattyn (6727) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - JUL 22, 2003
Amber, clear. Creamy head, not stable. Nose with alcohol, portwine, cookies. Very sweet and alcoholic taste. Roasted malts and liqueurish. Peppery finish. Filling mouthfeel, warming, nice. An alcoholics' beer - but in the nice way. Dutch beers CAN be good.
