500ml can bought at the grand opening of Aeon in Tsuen Wan. Clear deep blackish brown colour; Razor-thin head and beige foam which fades in 20 seconds; No lacing and minimal carbonation; Smell of roasted malt, light chocolate, cola, light caramel, and slight hint of alcohol; Taste of roast malt, nuts, light coffee, light grass and alcohol; Light body, watery palate. Sweetness comes only as a note, dominated by strong malt and alcohol taste. Hop bitterness is near zero and unable to curb the pretty strong boozy finish. Quite dry after taste, still easy to mouth despite the boozy taste.

Comments: this one bears some similarity with “Bear Beer Strong Stout” from the same brewery. I first suspect this may be an alias beer, but it turns out to be quite different from the latter. This one is much less sweeter, which I like, but it lacks the roasty and chocolaty smell and taste typical of a stout, and it’s way too boozy to my mouth (but not to my head). Like Bear Beer Strong Stout, this is another lager-based, high abv pretender. Stout drinkers probably won’t touch it, and it’s not strong enough to be a proper tramp juice. What a limbo.
