COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
A smooth and refreshing premium quality American-style pilsner. Burger Classic is full-flavored yet light-bodied lager brewed with select American 6-row pale and black malts along with Chinook, Nugget and Liberty hops. Naturally carbonated by using traditional Krausening methods. A regional favorite in Ohio, Kentucky and Indiana. Brewed by City Brewery for Christian Moerlein Brewing.

Can from shigadeyo. Poured clear pale color with a medium frothy white head that was mostly lasting with good lacing. Moderate sweet grainy aroma. Medium body with a smooth texture and soft carbonation. Medium sweet flavor with a medium sweet finish of moderate duration. My expectations where met with an above average return.

Can. Slightly sweet barley malt. Medium yellow color with moderate head. Mildly sweet barley malt and lightly bitter herbal hops flavor. Medium body. One of a number of resurrections of classic Cincinnati beers - I never got a chance to try this before (had plenty of other Hudepohl-Schoenling beers though). This is the best of - kind of reminds me of the old Hudepohl Gold beer. Definitely better than the main stream pale lager - as long as this is available, I will keep this around for pale lager drinkers and when I want something lighter.

Light sweet aroma. Light golden with a thin whispy head. Some grass. Barley malt and grass. Don’t get much adjuncts, its nice and clean.A little lemon in finish. If this was my local pale lager I would drink the hell out of it.

Can from Ryan011235, who apologized for sending it. Why apologize, man? This shit sounded pretty good (for the style)! And what do you know... Pours bright golden, more golden than yellow, with a white head that lasts longer than I usually see for beers of this sort. Not a FYB it seems. The aroma is pretty nice actually. Honey and floral notes accompany the typical sweet pale malt, and there’s no unpleasant adjunct smell like that which I get from the macros. The flavor is pleasant, rather malty for the style, almost like a Munich helles. Pale malt, honey, and slight floral hops. Balanced, with no crappy BMC aftertaste. Crisp, clean, and refreshing mouthfeel, with just a little more heft than you usually get for this style. Average carbonation level. Overall, this is probably the best American style crap later I’ve ever had. Would be an excellent lawnmower beer if I ever were to mow a law (can’t afford grass currently). Really enjoyed it. For all the whiners who said, "Waah waah you never rate a pale lager/adjunct lager/crap beer well," consider this one a big fat "IN YO’ FACE!"

UPDATED: SEP 8, 2009 Burger is back, and got some decent press in Cincinnati during its 2009 re-release. I’m surprised to see this fairly highly rated, but then again its peers are mostly pretty weak. It’s not bad but offers little more than a macro lager. Clear gold pour, average white head. Weak aroma. Corn, light grain and malt. Moderate carbonation. I imagine I’ll start seeing can specials of this at bars around Cincinnati, which would be worth trying instead of overpriced macros.

Can sample at Muckfest 2009 Day 2. Pours clear gold with a thin white head. Malty aroma with lager yeast a bit of hop. Flavor about the same.

I’ve been cleaning out the storage room in my basement and built a set of shelves for my beer cellar and have been getting things organized. As a beer can collector, I have cases and cases of cans that I used to trade with. I decided it was time to cull the herd a bit and in going through the cases of cans, came across this full one of Burger. It lists the brewer as Hudepohl-Schoenling in Cincinnati, Ohio. I also see a logo that they are sponsoring some event in ’88. Holy crap, this stuff is 20 years old! Well, into the fridge it goes...

I was expecting the worst when I opened the can. To my surprise, it poured a mostly clear light gold with a sudsy white head that faded to an uneven white film within about a minute. No foul odors, that’s a good sign. Actually some very light hops and sweet malt. The flavor is actually not bad either - sweet malt with some very light hops and even a little sweet lemon. Really not a bad little beer.
