Scythe Rye Pale Ale (6.5% ABV): The nose of a traditional IPA, with the incredible malt complexity of a European pale ale. We use a healthy dose of rye and Belgian crystal malts and dry hop with a pound per barrel of our favorite under-appreciated American hop. It’s not overly bitter, but you won’t forget the hops. 7% Hop forward red ale brewed with high percentages of Rye and Belgian Crystal malts and buttloads of Summit, Chinook, Simcoe and Columbus hops. NOTE: All beers labeled as Scythe go under this name.

Draft at the brewery, Mosaic hop edition. Has the unmistakable Mosaic odor of burnt pineapple, pineapple rind and scallions to go with the seed bread and toasted cereal malt. Medium body, frothy carbonation, chewy late. Toasty / seedy malt character, medium to light sweetness, medium bitterness, low acid. A bit crunchy and grainy but overall a solid effort, just boring.

phaleslu (6509) - Cincinnati, Ohio, USA - FEB 24, 2014
Draft served in a taster at the brewery. Pours a clear, red-gold color without much of a head. Notes of rye, grass, paper, florals, dust, pine, and earth. Light-medium bodied, with a resinous mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. Kind of dank, too. Has a dusty, musty nose and a really nice flavor. Good rye pale ale.

Taster on tap at the brewery during RBWG. Mostly clear amber orange color. Thin off-white head. Couple dots and bits of lace. Great, smooth, lighter crisp carbonation. Medium body. Lightly click. Nice lightly spicy rye and good bigger citrusy hop. Medium to bigger bitter taste. Fantastic, smooth, easy drinking rye pale ale. Good longer aftertaste. Some caramel malt. Moderate sweet taste.

b3shine (5458) - Indiana, USA - FEB 8, 2014
Draft to taster at Burial during RBWG. Listed as 6.6%. Looks good; a transparent copperish orange with off-white lacing. Smells solid; a well-balanced hop profile with notes of rye and a pleasantly sweet pale malt backbone. Tastes like it smells with a nice, smooth mouthfeel. An awesome rye pale ale.
