I was 5 years old in the summer of 1974. The Commonwealth games were playing on the black and white TV inside and I was outside in the tyre swing hanging from a plum tree. The late afternoon sun in the hot, dry summer of the northern Wairarapa was a beautiful gold and I was thinking about how cool it would be to do a pole vault. When I went inside my dad was cleaning his gun and watching the track events and Mum was putting some meat through the mincer. Mum gave me a bone to gnaw the left-over gristle off and Dad gave me a few fingers of beer in a glass to wash it down with. I swear it was THIS beer. It smelled of a clean simple biscuity malt, slightly dusty in the heat, noble-ish hops and the faintest tinge of green apples at the back. The afternoon became even more golden.

THis is a fruity-citrus beer that is consistent and balanced from aroma to finish. I admire the consistency, this makes it solid. Not really my style but something a little different from the ordinary.

330ml into schooner glass. Great nose, freshly mowed grass and pepper. Amber beer with thin white head, bubbles on side of glass. Bitter, thin and flat in the mouth. Finish is creamy with more hop bitterness. Looks a lot like XXXX but tastes much better. Interesting, sessionable.

(Bottle) Clear amber with small transient off white head. Nice aroma - citrus with pine hints. Light body modest carbonation. Sweet and fruity start develops some reasonable bitterness in the finish. Very drinkable.

Poured from stubby / Ar: tropical and herby goodness / Ap: Copper coloured, minimal off white head / T: Medium bitterness from the hops, not very sweet / P: Light body and texture, average carbonation, lingering bitter finish but by no means abrasive or unpleasant / O: Yum yum, def the favourite from Burleigh, very drinkable american style pale, comes recommended

330ml bottle. A lively clear amber with a lasting, lacing one-finger white head when poured. Fresh, aromatic citrus fruit aromas with gently toasted malt notes. Crisp and lean with fragrant citrus, tangerine and lychee-styled hop characters to taste with subtle biscuity malt notes to balance. Lingering in the finish with a pithy bitterness. Light to medium body and medium carbonation with a firm, dry palate texture. A solid example of the style with balance, freshness and intensity. Paired well enough with curry too.

The first time I tried this beer I was on holidays, I didn’t expect very much and was very surprised. Having returned home I bought a six pack at the local. it still has a nice golden colour, but it is a bit of a letdown after that. very drinkable, but not enough body or flavour.

wasn’t expecting too much from this but it was a pleasant surprise. A little watery but very tasty. Good amount of hops. Very drinkable. My friend Barry says "overall it’s a 7.5/10"
