COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
When not working hard producing Burleigh Brewing’s regular line-up of beers, our brew team dabbles in ‘A Bit on the Side’. And inspiration was abundant for this latest brew. Filtered through local lava rock, My Wife’s Bitter is our coastal interpretation of a classic English bitter, with roasted maltiness, a soft caramel character and dense, aromatic foam. Whats in in? Authentic English hops (Fruggles & East Kent Goldings), a blend of classic English speciality malts (crystal & chocolate), a centuries-old English yeast, beautiful Gold Coast water and the passionate commitment od our entire team. What’s NOT in it? Preservatives, additives, nasty chemicals, foam enhancers, pre-isomerised hop products, animal products, finings, GMO’s...or anything else that is not meant to be in beer.

Elaborate 650ml bottle. Copper, small light beige head that disappears fast. Fruity and chocolatey nose with some flowery hops evident. Actually undercarbonated. Quite malty and somewhat sweet, then a good somewhat bitter finish. I suspect some of the character of this beer was filtered away.

Bottle. I agree it’s one of the best looking bottles on the market! Pours copper with a white head that completely disappeared (arghh!). Caramel malt and fruity noble hop notes. The flavour is caramel malt, toffee and fruit from the English hops though subdued. Very low in carbonation and perhaps a little hindered from the bottle. I’d like to try this fresh from the keg as I reckon it would benefit this beer very nicely.

650ml bottle. Packaged similar to Rogue Ales offering with tghe etched label, nice touch and a first for a local craft brewery in Qld. Nice to se them trying something a bit different. Ruby copper colour with a loosely packed white head that collapses quickly. Faint caramel aroma with a grainy undertone. Smooth with a medium level of bittereness with a hint of peanuts in the flavour.

First off, love the packaging! Pours crystal clear copper body with a non existent head...not overly attractive. Nose has caramel/toffee malt with typical spicy/floral uk hops making a brief appearance. Palate is low in carbonation with malt dominating. Finishes with a slight touch of hop bitterness & sweetness from the malt lingering. Overall a bit under what i expected, very much a sessional interpretation. Needs a little more presence from the hops IMO.

650ml brown bottle into pint glass. A bigger sized bottle suits this beer style so well done to the Burleigh Brewing Company. Pours translucent pale amber with a medium foamy brown tinged white head that provides fair lacing. Toasted malt aromas witth butterscotch, marmalade and a nice English floral hop presence. Medium to light bodied with a soft carbonation making it an easy session beer. Satisfying floral hop bitterness to the finish. An excellent locally produced English style bitter well worth seeking out. You could almost be in a London pub, with an Aussie behind the bar, engaging in friendly banter about England’s magnificent Ashes victory!
