COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
When not working hard producing Burleigh Brewing’s regular line-up of beers, our brew team dabbles in ‘A Bit on the Side’. And inspiration was abundant for this latest brew. Filtered through local lava rock, My Wife’s Bitter is our coastal interpretation of a classic English bitter, with roasted maltiness, a soft caramel character and dense, aromatic foam. Whats in in? Authentic English hops (Fruggles & East Kent Goldings), a blend of classic English speciality malts (crystal & chocolate), a centuries-old English yeast, beautiful Gold Coast water and the passionate commitment od our entire team. What’s NOT in it? Preservatives, additives, nasty chemicals, foam enhancers, pre-isomerised hop products, animal products, finings, GMO’s...or anything else that is not meant to be in beer.

Bottle to glass at Jak and Hill, Brisbane. Dark copper brown, tiny head. Smells of malt, brown bread and boot polish. Medium body, sedate carbonation. Had a kind of astringent hop finish, which I rather liked once I got used to. Not hugely bitter, but a nice version of one.

Poured from Stubby... Ar: caramel & chocolate dominate with roasty notes not much in the way of hops / Ap: Deep copper and pretty clear, minimal off white head / T: Quite malty sweet with lingering bitter finish / P: Softly carbonated, light body, bitter finish / O: Interesting beer, terrific name encouraged the purchase (clever marketing right?), but overall a tad disappointing, not the worst by any means but wouldnt be rushing to get more

330 ml Bottle. Hoppy aroma, refreshing, crisp, well carbonated and easy to drink. Lingering bitterness is not over the top, It’s OK.

Pours a see-through copper colour with a nice white head. Aroma of oak, spruce, sourness and dough. There is also that classic bittersmell that I struggle to describe. Flavour is good balanced! Medium body and soft carbonation, just like a bitter should be like! Overall one of the better bitters I’ve tried!

On the better side of ok. Fun name. I like the roasty, toasty malt to balance the fruitiness of the hop and yeast. Poured a bit warm with a modest cream-colored, foamy, soon to settle head, and a little lace. Color is a clear brown amber with a few bubble trails. Aroma is toffee, toast malt, bit of fruit, dust. Flavor’s like nose, the roast is one of my favs, not much hop, a few odd components. Body/carbonation are good. Finish is like flavor, would be better a little more chilled, fairly drinkable.

Bottle. Reasonably clear, reddy/malt coloured. Big malt bill demonstrated in roasted malt, nut, caramel and choc aroma. Just a slight whiff of cherry cola that slightly detracts. Flavours initially of toasty malt, although fairly hollow through the front palate leading to a dry, moderately bitter mid palate and then into a toasted malt, toffee, nutty and chocolate finish. A traditional English style bitter with low carbonation, hops for bitterness rather than any great flavour profile, a big malt bill and a relatively weak palate. Made for drinking by the pint. I like it.

Clear deep copper colour, thin head. Dark malty aroma. Somewhat sweet taste not sufficiently complemented by a low carbonation and mild roasty flavour.

Sweet malty goodness, only lightly carbonated. Amber with a generous head. Very drinkable.
