COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
When not working hard producing Burleigh Brewing’s regular line-up of beers, our brew team dabbles in ‘A Bit on the Side’. And inspiration was abundant for this latest brew. Filtered through local lava rock, My Wife’s Bitter is our coastal interpretation of a classic English bitter, with roasted maltiness, a soft caramel character and dense, aromatic foam. Whats in in? Authentic English hops (Fruggles & East Kent Goldings), a blend of classic English speciality malts (crystal & chocolate), a centuries-old English yeast, beautiful Gold Coast water and the passionate commitment od our entire team. What’s NOT in it? Preservatives, additives, nasty chemicals, foam enhancers, pre-isomerised hop products, animal products, finings, GMO’s...or anything else that is not meant to be in beer.

Bottle. Clear coppery gold with good off-white head. Caramel toffee aroma with floral hops and some maltiness. Light body and carbonation. Starts with a pleasant sweetness - caramel, roasted malt - and gives way to fruity and nutty taste with a pleasant bitter finish. An excellent, well balanced beer.

650ml brown bottle into pint glass. A bigger sized bottle suits this beer style so well done to the Burleigh Brewing Company. Pours translucent pale amber with a medium foamy brown tinged white head that provides fair lacing. Toasted malt aromas witth butterscotch, marmalade and a nice English floral hop presence. Medium to light bodied with a soft carbonation making it an easy session beer. Satisfying floral hop bitterness to the finish. An excellent locally produced English style bitter well worth seeking out. You could almost be in a London pub, with an Aussie behind the bar, engaging in friendly banter about England’s magnificent Ashes victory!

Bottle 650ml. Very nice malty bitter. Aroma is great once it warms up, with notes of caramel, toffee, and nuts. Taste is sweet, with light bitterness, and average length. Palate is velvety, and medium bodied. Amber, with a frothy head.

650ml bottle. Pours a clear copper, with a small white head which fades reasonably quickly, and leaves acceptable lace. The aroma is very malty, with toffee and caramel notes especially prominent. Delicate floral hops start it off, with some citrus coming in soon after. It moves on into a smooth toffee body, and a toasty malt finish. A quite straightforward bitter, but probably the most faithful non-English reproduction of the style I have encountered.

A very good effort. Low carbonation with a nice deep glossy redness. Sweet and maybe a little bland. Best beer from this brewer I have had.

Pours coppery brown with a small quickly fading head. Nose shows caramel, faint chocolate and nutty malt along with some soft spicy and earthy hops underneath. Flavours are focussed on the aforementioned malty characters. Finishes quite sweet with a soft bitterness. Could use more carbonation.

First off, love the packaging! Pours crystal clear copper body with a non existent head...not overly attractive. Nose has caramel/toffee malt with typical spicy/floral uk hops making a brief appearance. Palate is low in carbonation with malt dominating. Finishes with a slight touch of hop bitterness & sweetness from the malt lingering. Overall a bit under what i expected, very much a sessional interpretation. Needs a little more presence from the hops IMO.

Great label on 650ml brown bottle. Pours good looking copper/red with off white foamy head. Caramel, crystal malts and floral hops. Sweet to taste with caramel and light roast malt then fruit cake and mild bitterness. Easy to drink and Burleigh Brewing Co best beer.

650mL bottle. Spotted this in a bottle ’o, couldn’t say no! Pours a relatively clear reddish-amber body, small bit of soapy foam sits atop. Decent aroma of nutty, biscuity malts; nice and caramalised. Hint of flowery, marmalade-y English hops and subtle ripe currant fruit esters. Nice chewiness about the texture, medium-to-full body, moderate carbonation. Good malt presense once again on the body; sweet biscuits, roasted cashews, burnt toffee flavours, with orange marmalade hops delivering a solid bitterness, and floral honey blossom, raisin and spice lingering on the finish. Really enjoyed this beer. Delivers quite an authentic English bitter experience with ticks in all boxes...plus the name is a cack!
