DruncanVeasey (5145) - NUNEATON, Blue Square Prem, - MAR 11, 2011
Gravity, Leicester 2011. The most complex and conditioned beer of the fest so far, hands down. Mahogany with a wink of copper, sinking tan collar. Aroma difficult to pin down; blackberries wreathed in chocolate. Mellow soapy blackcurrant and black grape skin taste flecked with roast. Ash-scattered afters. Thick oatmeal mouthfeel. Deeply impressive, with flavours that overlap with dark beers three times as strong.

Scopey (1659) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAR 6, 2012
Cask at the Grill, Aberdeen. It pours deep brown, with a bubbly off-white head. The nose is roasted malt, nut and a touch of chocolate. The taste is much the same - roast, chocolate, nut and weak coffee, with a dry finish. Thin body and soft carbonation. Straightforward and fairly unexciting, but there is nothing wrong with it.

UPDATED: FEB 18, 2012 Cask at The Grill, Aberdeen. Dark brown pour with a small, bubbly tan head. A bit of roasty toast in the nose. Light some flavor, kind of roasty, some burnt leaves, bitter cocoa. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Dry, bitter cocoa finish with lingering dry roast and burnt toast. So so.

Cask conditioned at Birmingham Beer Fest ’11. Dark chestnut with slight head. Quite a thin beer, watery but with a light fruitiness. Easy drinking but really not that interesting.

[cask at SRAF’11] Pours a deep brownish black with a thin white head. Good roasty aromas from the glass, together with a touch of sweet coffee. On the palate, thin as milds inherently are, but before the finish washes away there’s a great deal to like - toasted coffee bean bitterness, dry, slightly smoky finish. Good flavours for it’s abv [15062011]
