Burnside Sweet Heat is a wheat ale with an addition of 200 pounds of Apricot puree, then dry hopped with imported Jamaican Scotch Bonnet peppers. Reminiscent of a Caribbean chutney, Sweet Heat has a subtle tartness from the fruit with a slight spiciness from the peppers which also adds a fruitiness to the aroma.

Sampled from bottle @ RBBSG 2015. Hazy pale yellow color, small white head. Smell and taste lightly malts, lemongrass, chili burn heavily, peppers. Oh dear Lord, way way too much for me. Yuk!

Sampled at the brewpub. Haxy golden. White ring. Lots of wheat and apricot here. Some spiceiness. Feels like fruit juice in the mouth. Black peppers along with anchos, maybe.

Bomber from Safeway. Very hazy light straw in color. Nose is somewhat like a wheat ale or wit. Some fruitiness and a hint of spiciness. Very spicy. A little underlying sweetness in the background. Overall quite spicy. Kind of reminds me of pizza for some reason.

Bottle shaped at the De Molen monthly tasting. Pours cloudy blonde with a ring white head. Aroma of fruity peppers, light mango, apricot and other fruits. Flavour is light to light moderate sweet and bitter. Pepper heat showing up fairly strong in the first sip and building with each after. Light bodied with soft carbonation. Interesting, but certainly wouldn’t want to drink the whole bomber by myself.

Draught at SL Beer Hall. Don’t get much apricot, more mango-like fruitiness followed by plenty of red pepper. Decently fruity and not overly spicy unlike Californian crazy spice beers, fun drink in small serving.

Tap at BCS. Fruity again, apricot, light tropical fruit. Taste is initially fruity then the chilli comes in. Nice warmer, not a burner. Fairly thick.

UPDATED: JUN 5, 2015 This beer is mildly sweet, being considerably more tart, but really packs some heat. The heat builds nicely with repeated consumption. Apricots contribute nicely. Should work well with Asian cuisine.
