The Burren Gold is a delicious, characterful lager. The mainstream lagers available every-where just cannot compete with this one!

Sample at the brewpub. This beer pours a clear golden color with a medium creamy white head that diminishes slowly to an outer ring. Partial sheets of lacing on the glass. Aroma of grainy malt and hops. Light-bodied with flavors of herbal hops and bready malt. The finish is mildly bitter with a hoppy aftertaste. Decent overall.

Served on tap into a UK pint glass at the Roadside Tavern, the only outlet for this beer, Lisdoonvarna Co Clare, Eire - Jan ’12. Worth also noting that at present (Jan ’12) it is only available on tap and no bottling takes place. They are a friendly bunch and whilst I didn’t broach the subject I’m sure they’d be more than hapy to fill a growler or some form of recepticle for you! Pours a rich amber-gold colour with a thin white head that was maintained throughout drinking. Straw/grass smells penetrate the nose along with subdued malts and a little hop aroma. Taste wise, crisp, refreshing, grassy perhaps a hint of something sweet in the brew - maybe honey? Bitter dry aftertaste. Good mouthfeel for a lager with low carbonation, plenty of lacing in the glass on this beer. In summary a decent effort at ’craft’ lager. One thing to point out (along with all the Burren beers), they didn’t detail the ABV on the pump clips and admitted to tweaking production slightly, ’as and when’, so certain batches come out stronger than others! The younger barman thinks on this date it was mid 5%ABV - Good stuff ABV mystery aside!
