Gold Medal Ales are produced monthly in recognition of some of the ’greats’ of history.
This month’s story :-
On the 19th September 1879, Blackpool bathed its Promenade in artificial sunlight, provided by eight dynamo electric powered Siemans arc lamps.
This was the first Blackpool Illumination, plus probably the first electric street lighting scheme in the World, and that was fifteen years before the Tower opened.

2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
1st had this during The 2012 Rail Ale Trail on 7th Sep but didn’t bother reviewing it because it was so bland. However it appeared in The Crown, Oakengates on 22 Sep, so I had a hand-pulled pint hoping the gravity poured 1st time was a one off.
Sadly it wasn’t much better hand-pulled: light amber body with a thin white head on top, didn’t stay long.
This is a middle of the road brew that doesn’t excite the taste buds or test your smell either.
Burton Bridge seem to be brewing more and more ’different’ beers and appear to be appeasing ’tickers’ more than looking after their regulars: a worry.
