Cask at The Green Dragon, Leek (JDW) A clear amber colour with a thin white head. Aroma of pale malts, some caramel, slight red berries, subtle marzipan and earthy hops. Taste is similar of biscuity malts, some caramel, slight red berries, subtle nuts and earthy hops. Light bodied and soft carbonation. A soft, nutty, earthy hop bitterness in the finish. A standard, inoffensive beer. Drinkable.

UPDATED: NOV 9, 2015 At the Burton Bridge Inn. Mid amber with a creamy head. Malty aroma leads you into this excellent subtle beer. Taste is very well balanced but malt just has the edge. Smooth and refreshing with a long but not astringent aftertaste. A classic session bitter.

On at the Burton Bridge Inn
This may not be the worst or most offensive bitter on the planet. However it was just bland after a few sips. Even though these things are brewed to be sessionable I would love to see somebody inject some character instead of just a dash of hops, a dash of malts, and then nothing to add depth.

Aroma / Appearance - The flat coppery base is a weak placeholder. Watered down Snickers bars, caramel chews, and malt vie for attention. Somehow it feels diluted and feeble compared to its potential.

Flavor / Palate - The mouthfeel is gentle and soft on the palate. It is so gentle that it takes a few sips to get a handle on the mild malty profile. Leaving no remarkable or memorable aspects it fades like a morning fog. While this may work for some people I’d prefer to drink a beer that at least tries to capture your attention. Otherwise you may as well be drinking tap water.

Draught. This is a wonderful bitter with great hop/malt balance. One of the best I have had.

Gravity dispense at the Happy Man, Englefield Green, Midlands BF, 15/03/13. Lightly hazed dark golden amber with no head - not pretty on the eye! Nose is malts, hops, touch of TCP, caramel. Taste comprises malt, berry fruits, pretty basic on the flavour front. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation - a touch on the flat side, some light bitter notes in the finish. A very bog standard twiggy bitter - not one to bother with again, red wine plaease if that’s all on offer!
