Cask Conditioned, at Hamilton Hall, London.
Amber body pumped with a fine white vale. Honey malt base that was thin and failed to carry through. Hamilton Hall is one of the busiest pubs in the City. Serving cheap beer and located right at the entrance of Liverpool street station. Judging from the consistently poor quality of the beer, I think it has to be questioned as a scooping venue. This will be my last from there for some time.

Cask, Admiral Hardy, Greenwich Excellent condition. Golden amber colour. Bready aroma, slightly sweet with a suggestion of a butcher's shop - some raw bacon fat perhaps. Taste is oh so yummy - an inspired balance of sweet pale malt and zippy citric hops. A gorgeous ale.

The aroma is warm with strong notes of plums. The color is golden and it has a small but disappearing head. The flavor is warm, round with an undistigingable fruit note. It ends on a really good bitternes and prickling of the tongue.

Cask at Charlbury Beer Festival. Deep yellow colour, another flat lifeless beer with little character. Dry malt slightly smoky, forced bitterness almost chemical.

According to the beer festival notes, brewed for the first time in July 2003, so this was a fresh recipe and beer when I had it. Why they deviated from their earlier beers I do not know. The appearance is unremarkable, with a light golden color. Aroma is mild, of caramel, tea leaves, and a wet dog, very average. The flavor is sweeter and slightly nutty. It leans to the thin side and carries a long bitter finish. I tried to keep drinking this in order to do justice to it, but I gave up and headed to the kegs for another. (on gravity cask, 2003 Charlbury Beer Festival, Oxon)
