I have had a few porters and this one was the lightest in colour. It was also sweeter than any other porters I have tried. It did not have as much of a coffee/chocolate taste . Not bad, but I found it to be lacking in flavour. My wife really enjoyed it.

Bottle: Named "Santa’s Christmas Porter". Very dark brown / black color, thick lasting beige head. Aroma is roasted with chocolate, dark fruit and distinct notes of earthy/dusty hops. Taste is roasted and malty with tobacco, chocolate pudding, perfectly balanced sweetness and a nice hoppy finish.

500 ml bottle. Pours deep brown, with a long lasting rocky head. Lighter body for the style, almost like a dark brown ale rather than a porter. Bold aroma, with notes of chocolate and coffee, belies the medium body. Quite drinkable. Toasted malt and fruity flavours with a smooth finish. Mouth-feel a bit thin. Perhaps a good intro to the style as it’s pretty inoffensive.

(Cask at Ship & Mitre, Liverpool, 24 July) Colour is very dark brown (not really black, but almost) with ruby notes, thick lasting beige head. Beautiful! Nose is roasted with chocolate, dark fruit and distinct notes of earthy/dusty hops. Taste is roasted and malty with tobacco, chocolate pudding, perfectly balanced sweetness and a nice hoppy finish. This beer can be a bit uneven, but this one was in almost perfect condition. Very nice!

Deep dark body with ruby tinges and a large light tan head. Dark fruit, liquorice and a bit of tar on the aroma. Flavour is what the nose promises, medium body, bitter, yeast and burnt bacon.

Very dark red/brown pour. Odd sour scent. Some chocolate and prune. Tan head. Complex taste, slightly sweet fruits with a bitter finish. Very strong lasting bitter aftertaste that lasted way too long. Very low carbonation.

Very intresting beer here, not like a normal porter, maybe more like i imagine it used to be, when beer was made about 200 years ago. Aroma has some sweetness, maybe some apples and dustyness? Taste has soem roasted malts, some darker fruits kicking in too, a little pale sherry character. Seems a bit old, use by date is 03/06 and its 02/06 so maybe this contributes, very intresting.
