Dark brown beer. Medium head. Mainly burnt notes. A very hoppy and bitter finish fore a porter.

Bottle. Dark brown-black with nice lasting beige head. A very fruity porter, slighty sour, little roasted and dry, above medium body with low carbonation - soft mouthfeel, lovely balance and drinkability. Very pleasing and moreish.

Bottle: Pours opaque with dark brown edges and an airy, nicely-lacing tan head. Sweet malty aroma has some caramel and roasted malt along with some earthy hops. Body starts with lots of carbonation that sort of masks the sweetness turning more earthy and dry toward the dark caramel bittersweet finish. Has some slightly metallic character to it as well. Would be better if it had more of a sweet creaminess.

(Bottle 50 cl) Cloudy dark brown with the head being almost absent. Lovely malty nose, but not really burned - roasted at the most. Not much body either. Pronounced bitterness in the finish. 090905

Bottle. Almost cola like aroma that has a touch of vinegar and mashed fruit. Dirty brown. Started with a massive head then faded almost completely away. Sweet fruity flavor with the barest hint of roasted barley malt that finishes kinda spritzy. Odd porter.

Feb ’05. Sedimented bottle (500ml), picked up at Hogs Back. Pours dark with an orangy hue. Aroma is banana, stale bitter, line cleaner, sweet malt and and fruit. Flavour is fairly flat and sweet with a touch of acidity, fruit and a fair bit of malt. Bitter finish. Rather boring. <3.3> Also sampled Aug ’04.Vintage bottle from the first bottling - circa 1983. Stale malt and sherry. Somewhat horrible. We weren’t really expecting anything else though, so of course this rating will not count towards my total score.

Cask at the Swan in the Rushes, Lougborough. Clear dark brown with ruby hues. Some dark fruit in the aroma, quite sweet with a hint of coffee. Flavours are similiar with a nice bitter finish. A smooth medium bodied and very drinkable porter.

Bottle: Poured deep brown with a red hue, small though lasting tan head. Big aroma of berries and cara, with a slight hint of roast. Sweetish fruity start with quite a dry roast finish. Some chocolate flavours come through but mostly just darker fruits. Medium bodied. Nice, very drinkable.
