Thin roasted malt body with a bitt tobacco finish. Dry and peaty. Thin and unbalanced. Not really impressed with this brew. YogiBeera (2437), Hamburg, Germany
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Feb 1, 2005 Takes some time to get used to it. Little layer of a head, nice dark red mahagony color. First a bittter kick, kind of unpleasant like bark. Sour, balsamico taste, which after a while is nice. Stale though. Weird, but very ineresting. chriso (4796), London, Greater London, England
| 3.5 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 15/20 | Jan 4, 2005 Mahogany colour, not particularly dark. Pours with big, beige, rocky head composed of large bubbles, but that soon subsides. Persistent petillance on the tongue. Yeasty aroma, with sweet licorice, berry fruit and a touch of chocolate. It has something of the Belgian, and slightly funky, about it too. I wasn’t convinced about the aroma at first, but it’s really growing on me as time goes on. In the mouth it’s really more about feel than insistent flavours. Some berry fruit. There’s something earthy and vinous there. Certainly not a big roast malt beer. Quite sharp, but in a citric tart sort of way, rather than lactic sour. Noticeably bitter finish. Thin bodied and, with the prickly mouthfeel, strangely cola-like. Curious, but oddly arresting - the whole is definitely more compelling than the sum of the parts. 500ml bottle from beersofeurope.co.uk.

| 2.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 2/5 | 4/10 | 2/5 | 8/20 | Dec 29, 2004 Pours unclear dark amber colored with almost no head. Creamy and chocolaty in the rather weak aroma. Even weaker flavor, it is actually one of the thinnest porters I have ever tasted!
Roasted tones with hints of hop. Not bad, just waaay too thin and watery! DeepBlack (387), Derby, Derbyshire, England

Mine was under the name of “Festive Christmas Porter” but it’s basically the same as their standard Porter
A very dark brown / black colour.
Nice Malty bitter taste. Very drinkable. An excellent bottle.

| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 5/5 | 17/20 | Nov 7, 2004 Bottled. Toffee and toast nose, deep black body with a dirty coffee halo for a head, thin feel but all the better for it, initial nutty sweetness gives in to a malt roastiness with a sour twist. I’ll be stocking up om this while I can get it. Lovely. mustang3 (254), Whitby, Canada
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Jul 6, 2004 The bottle pour begins with a moderate sized tan head. The nose is grapey. I couldn’t quite place the taste, but some toffe sweetness. There was a slight sourness to the finish. DaSilky1 (1973), San Diego, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Jun 10, 2004 damn it. POured a cloudy orange tinted brown and spawning a perfect thin sheet of foamy tan head. The aroma was of hazelnut draped acidic grapes bathing in an almost bretty oak cask. Piercing carbination melts to dry nothingness..soft nuttiness makes whispers...acidity rises in the late. Much simplier than i had hoped from the maker of one of my favorite ales of all time (Old Expensive)...The body here was extremely week and I was always searching for flavors, which were lacking. But...Still, it had a hint of that mysterious burton bridge flavor that made it worth drinking.
