2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
In bottle as Festive Christmas Porter. Pours a slighty hazy, deep ruby colour with a thin tan head. Yeast, apple seed and alcohol nose. Some roasty malt flavour with apple seed and alcohol again. Moderate carbonation and CO2 prickle. Not my thing.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
0.5 l bottle (as Festive Christmas Porter) at Old Brick’s Inn, Jyväskylä. Hazy dark brown color. Dry vinous, acidic, woody and stale taste. There is woody spicy notes like ginger and clove, but it hard to say if these come from actual spices. A bit thin and fairly woody palate with low carbonation. Stale aged taste is not negative but feels a bit one sided and unbalanced. Perhaps there is too much woodiness for a low gravity beer.

UPDATED: DEC 25, 2011 Cask @ Wetherspoon. Black with no head. Aroma of roasted malt. Thin, watery, bitter roasted malt, bit of coffee. Unpleasant, very dry finish. A poor example of the style. 2.2
Re-rate from bottle as Festive Christmas Porter 25/12/11
Aroma - Earthy hops, roasted malt, minerals, some yeast
Taste - Burnt toast, bitter very earthy hops, mineraly, some yeast, stale - not good.
Palate - Moderate carb, thin body, bit oily texture. Finish - dry, burnt, bitter, earthy, rust, minerals.
Overall - Nope - not for me. Every aspect of this beer is below par. A really awful porter. Nothing festive about this beer. Drain pour.

Clear brown beer. Bloody dry palate! I don’t want every drop of saliva sucked out of my mouth! Why do brewers think this is a good thing? The only other time this happens is at the dentist when you are getting a filling and the nurse is there with that mouth hoover! I don’t want to pay to repeat that experience in a beer - so stop making them so bloody dry dammit! Some dust. Rich malt and not much else in this bloody overdry beer! Original rating 2.3

Cloudy dark brown beer. Frothy short lived cream coloured head. Light frothy palate. Creamy malt, no bitterness. Tangy dark malt and minerals lead up to the dry finish. Bitter aftertaste. Still dry but nowhere near as bad as first time around!

2 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
[500ml bottle, The Bottle, York] [Sampled as Burton Festive Porter] Yeasty, bready aromas from the bottle conditioning, with a rather odd stewed apple nose. Dark brown-coloured ale with a very thin head. Taste is very subtle, some malt and more of that appley fruit. Really strange – not festive, not a porter, and not nice

Gravity cask at the Bree Louise. Pours a clearish brown with no head. Weak aroma of dark malts, mild cocoa. Faint sugars in flavor, faint roast, hints of earthy bitters. Light bodied with doft carbonation. Boring finish, mild toast, hints of plastic and grass. Poor condition.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
500ml bottle from LCBO. Pours a ruby tinged brown with a very thick brown head. Very cloudy and opaque. Aroma is quite strange; heavy on grassy and earthy tones with what seems like hints of tobacco and fruit. Flavour is oddly a burst of apple followed by bitter roasted coffee and making way to a tremendous nutty aftertaste. Surprisingly easy to drink despite thin body. Enjoyable.
