thebeertourist (2750), Oslo, Norway Nov 3, 2007 Bottle. Very dark brown with almost no head. Good chocolate caramel nose. Good chocolate flavours, light roast appears towards the finish. A bit watery. Body and appearance can be improved, but it tastes good. crushinat0r (227), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Nov 1, 2007 500ml bottle. Pours with a ton of light brown lacing head. Looks chocolaty brown, opaque. Smells caramel, malty. Tastes very similar. Consistent and smooth. A nice winter beer, drink on a cold day, it warms you from the inside out. Yum. Maltybones (60), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Oct 28, 2007 500ml bottle. Nice chocolate coloured pour with very little head. Aroma is a little fruity.....plumb or date-like. Similar flavours are present with very subtle coffee notes and a strong sour finish. Drinks silky smooth on the palate. Unusual for a porter but a little underrated. . yarry (370), Waterdown, Ontario, Canada Oct 17, 2007 500 ml, 4.5% Bottle Conditioned.
Very deep chocolate brown, nice looking with a light brown head. Very well carbonated for a bottle conditioned beer. Definite lacing of the head as well. The nose is of soap, and roasted malt and nut. The taste is great. Caramel, hops, and roasted coffee/malt flavour all marry exceptionally well. The initial taste is good but the aftertaste and mouthfeel make it that much better. A very nice porter with an average taste but great aftertaste. Very dark brown color, small off-white head. Slightly roasted and nutty aroma. Sticky hoppy, roasted coffeish flavor. Long bitter aftertaste. Light palate. A bit too attacking. PintPilgrim (16), Ontario, Canada Oct 3, 2007 Bottle - pours dark with almost no head. smells of dates and alcohol. thin body. decent initial taste - pleasant than shifts to a off sour finish. did not like this at all. DerWeg (748), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Sep 30, 2007 Updated: Nov 21, 2008***2008 rating *** moderately sour over light caramel with an earthy character and a fine bitterness of hops. Fungal like a brie cheese - the mushroomy flavor predominates. Certainly interesting. Last year it was not fungal but had a sharp green-apple character.*** 2007 rating *** Not bad - the green apple peel dryness and funk are interesting. The dryness seems to thin the palate a bit. Not really my cup of suds though admirable. 7-3-7-3-12 = 3.2 Poperinge (359), Cowtown, Alberta, Canada Sep 28, 2007 Page 93 of Michael Jackson’s Great Beer Guide. On hand pump in Burton on Trent. to quote Josh Oakes this is an olde school porter with a slight sourness. Only 181 of MJ’s Classic Brews to go.
