3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 tombyars (1102) - Saltcoats, SCOTLAND - OCT 12, 2011
Tasted this in the Saltcot, Saltcoats (JDW) in June 2007. Cask, handpump dispense. Dark ruby red with plum highlights and a thin white head. Slight hint of dry blackcurrant fruit. Thin mouthfeel and poor lacing. Dark malts give a rich maltloaf base with sweet black grapes, damsons, and ripe swollen brambles. Very slight hop notes in the short aftertaste but sweet fruit presence continues into the finish. Dry woody redcurrant and tart blackcurrants give a tart finish. An ok session porter

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 bacchanalia (145) - milton, Cambridgeshire, ENGLAND - JUN 25, 2010
Lovely deep very dark red/brown. Really super nose, very full lots of fruit, a sort of sweet/sour fruit note in there with malty undertones. Nice full body with dark malt and a fresh fruity nip. The fruit is apparent but there’s this nice nip of sour fruit & bitterness that keeps this as a refeshing pint. The balance of the porter & fruit is well thought out, the damson is an ever present but not overpowering.
