COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION Cask; Special (Gold Medal Ale series) - July 2009. Gold Medal Ales are produced monthly in recognition of some of the ’greats’ of history. This month’s story :- In July 1568, the distinguished cleric Dr Alexander Nowell, Dean of St. Pauls, accidentally discovered bottled beer. He decanted some beer into a bottle for a fishing expedition, but during the afternoon he lost it in the long grass. He found it again several days later. By then he described it thus " No bottle, but a gun, so great was the sound". However the beer was still perfectly drinkable and eventually became a popular way for a brewer to present his wares to the public. Colour: Golden Nose: Lightly hopped Taste: Well bittered after taste Hops: Fuggles & Whitbread Goldings
