COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Special (Gold Medal Ale series) - June 2009.

Gold Medal Ales are produced monthly in recognition of some of the ’greats’ of history. This month’s story :-
Admiral Ramsey was responsible for wartime Naval operations in the Dover Straights and he spearheaded Operation Dynamo to bring backour troops from the Dunkirk beaches. He and his staff assembled 850 boats, mostly private fishing boats and pleasure cruisers, and by the 4th of June ‘the miracle of little ships’ had rescued 338,226 men. Ramsey went on to be Naval Commander of the return fixture, the Normandy Landings, but unfortunately, he later died before the war ended in an air crash.

Cask conditioned at The Royal Blenheim, Oxford. Gold to amber with white head. Dry and a little astringent bitter with quite a dose of caramel as a filler, the hops are a little thin, but overall a pretty reasonable beer.

(Cask at Swann, Liverpool, 20 July 2009) Copper colour with frothy, off-white head. Fruity nose with peaches, citrus and dusty hops. Fruity taste with notes of biscuity malt, apricots, citrus peel and a decent dose of earthy hops in a slightly soapy finish. Medium body, slightly sweet. Nice one.

Cask at Merton Summer Beer and Cider Festival, Merton, Oxon, 18-07-09 Pours warm gold in colour with a big bubbly white head, looks really good in fact. There is a subtle touch of smoke on the nose in the mouth honey and the light smokiness returns, I wasn’t the only one to detect this. Good maltiness and nicely bitter. Nice beer. Cask handpull at Market Porter, London, Copper/gold with lasting off white head. It’s a pretty solid good best bitter.

Cask in the market porter. Alround rating: Pale green unripe apple, yeasty minerally character, light sulphurous hints, nutty sweetness, dry finish. Not good for me.

Cask at Wellington Arms, Bedford. Copper gold with a small white head. Creamy buttery aroma. Hairy malt taste, quite rough and interesting, with hints of cardboard and acetaldehyde. Some bitterness. I usually like these Burton Bridge specials; this one is quirky and interesting.
