UPDATED: DEC 30, 2010 Cask at Wellington Arms, Bedford. Mid gold with a small head. Floral hop aroma. Some malt in the taste. Mid to strong bitter finish. It’s OK, but don’t go searching for it. 21.12.09 Dusty straw aroma with some chipboard. Oaty biscuit taste. Mid bitter finish. Quaffing Santa on the pumpclip, but it doesn’t seem particularly seasonal. Rated:5,3,5,4,10:2.7 30.12.10. Same location.Underarm malt aroma with straw. Very sweet and malty with grain. Bit too direct. Rated:5,3,5,4,11:2.8

Gold. Not much aroma - some minerals. Thin and watery. There’s even something a bit chemical about it. I suspect I’m not a huge fan of the water this is made from.

Cask in the Market Porter. Alround rating: Pale sweeter malt, the yeast is fairly fruity and a bit earthy, the beer uitself is a bit hazy and seems slightly unclean, its also lacking sulphur which isnt a bad thing coming from burton, the finish has little hop but it remains fairly balanced. Easy drinking.

Small white head. Orange slightly hazy body. Fruity caramel toffee aroma, quite faint. Dry-sweetish floral roasty caramel taste, very harmonic and quite strong, with straw notes. Soft, mild mouthfeel, faintly oily. Mid-bodied. Dry floral straw and wooden caramel aftertaste. Lovely! Could drink this all day. (0.25l cask, The Carpenter’s Arms, Marble Arch, London.)

UPDATED: FEB 9, 2009 Re-rate, cask, White Post Inn, Stanley Common, Derbyshire. So much better; lighth flowery notes with dry malty backbone, assured bittering finish. Original rate 2.4, Cask at Criterion, Lecester, RB crawl 2005. Who will save me from these average ales? Hearty my arse. Burton Bridge ought to know better - stunningly average, no edge to make it worthy of a tag like Hearty.

Fairly pale amber colour. It’s clean enough but there’s not much aroma, not much flavour and not much interest. It’s not unpleasant, just a bit bland. Doesn’t come across as 5.0%. Cask (handpump), Criterion, Leicester (RB pub crawl).

Cask Conditioned at The Criterion, Leicester, (RB Crawl). Copper brown beer with no head or condition. Little to be hearty about this, dull lifeless beer with a sludgy malt base and no top notes.

Cask conditioned - handpump - Criterion - Leicester (RB Leicester Crawl). A copper coloured beer with little aroma to speak of. The taste is dull with a light malt background. Certainly didn’t taste hearty to me but I was also drinking a Doppelbock at the time.

Hand pulled at the Wellington, Birmingham. Clear amber colour. Aptly titled. Very firm, dry and spicy tasting beer. Clean varnish through the palate. Thick, gluey feel, with strong sugar cane notes. Challenging, but palatable.

UPDATED: JAN 27, 2005 Cask conditioned & on Hand Pump at The Brunswick in Derby. A mid coppery brown colour. Matly, very tastey, loads of flavour. Quaffable stuff Nice & drinkable for the 5%
