COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Cask; Special (Gold Medal Ale series) - April 2008.

Gold Medal Ales are produced monthly in recognition of some of the ’greats’ of history. This month’s story :-
John Walker, chemist and apothecary, of Stockton-on-Tees mixed chemicals that when dry and rubbed on a rough surface, burst into flames. He coated the ends of wooden spills and sold his first matches as Congreve’s, after the fiery Congreve’s Rocket on April 7th 1827. Walker neither patented nor exploited his product because he wanted it to benefit mankind. However, this didn’t stop others jumping on the band wagon and he was only given credit for his invention after his death in 1859.

Colour: Amber
Nose: Hoppy with hints of fruit
Taste: Clean bitterness
Hops: English Pioneer & Challenger

Cask (St. Urho’s, Helsinki)
Pale amber, small loose head. Fruity and slightly gluey aroma - decent mix of aromatic and bitter hops. Slightly doughy body, bready, and with good citrussy hops. Long but not overpowering zingy hoppy finish. Solid golden bitter.

Cask conditioned at The Wellington, Birmingham. Chestnut with white head. Deeper roasted malts with chocolate notes and a touch of sweetness, brought out with just hints of hop, maybe a little vegetal but still there. Its ok without being exciting.
