In 1883, the American, George Parker formed a games company, later to become Parker Brothers. On November 5th 1935, when many games makers were going bust due to the Depression, Parker launched Monopoly on a grand scale. Despite there having been similar games before it, it swept the nation and soon after it was launched in the UK by Waddingtons, who substituted London locations for the American ones. Since then, more than 500 million people worldwide have played the game. So pick up a pint and enjoy your stay in jail!
