3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: NOV 10, 2009 Leoís, South Point, OH - Not nearly as dark as I believe an ESA should be but Old Expensive does offer something unique. The nose and subsequent flavor of the brew is somewhat lemon peel, a tinge of alcohol which is unusual for such a low ABV beer, and sa fresh-leather scent. A bit peppery and dry but refreshing no doubt. I can imagine drinking this beer during the holidays. A good mouthful for the style makes this beer not too "Old" and not that "Expensive" so try it out.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Bottle: Beautiful very deep copper with a creamy dense light tan head. The aroma is spicy, fruity, wild with brett character, leather, cherry pit, soft plummy malt notes, vinous notes- complex! Creamy fluffy body with a clean texture. Very soft plum & fig malt background. Very dry and spicy overall with lots of brett (Brux) rustic character. Some leather, fruity spiciness, cherry pit with a long spicy dry finish with lots of bitter fruit skin. Complex, silky, balanced and delicious. Extremely underrated.

Dark orange-red, fluffy off white head. Aroma is fruity, citrus, nice light hop spiciness, sweet malt, light acidity and brett. Taste is caramels, more fruits, apples, dry and bretty finish with mingling grassy, spicy hop bitterness. Fantastic beer.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Deep reddish amber pour with a thick tan head. Aroma of yeast and toffee, cider, musk. Itís pretty strong, as I can smell it from the table as I sit on my couch. Taste is some brett and some yeast, a bit of sweet fruit. Tartness comes out as it warms. Some herbal notes, dandelions, weeds, flowers. Mouthfeel is light, with soft carbonation. Dry and tangy finish. A weird one for sure, unique and underrated also. Iím sure if this were on cask it would kill me with awesomeness.

2.7 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20
Odde ducke. As soon as I opened it I smelled sherry and walnuts. Poured straight into the middle of the glass and got a little head, no lace. Color is dark amber with a little color particle haze. Upon sticking my schoz into the beer I got lots of other stuff: cider, leather, dirt, Burton-on-Trent smell, caramel, minerals, and yeast. Flavorís about the same. Bodyís a hair thin. Finish is ok. Not one of my favs. Got to be much better from the cask. Got this bottle last week at Samís in Chicago.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
I was putting this off for a while, not sure why, I guess a British brett beer made me waver a bit. It pours a very thick dark amber color, gets murky and dirty with the bottom of the bottle. However, it has a small head, yet a sticky lacing. Aroma is all brett, man, donít matter what is going on underneath it is all brett. Its a sweet and herbal mix of tart, leather, and earthy brett. Taste is all bretty but a bit too oily sweet for me not bad, just not as complex and layered as it is in the aroma. The weird thing is the aftertaste is an extremely dry herbal flowers. Its a sweet and oily, yet herbal at the same time. This makes for an interesting mouthfeel, slick, light, sticky and filling all at the same time. As far as I know brett this is at least a year in the bottle if not much more.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Pours clear copper with decent looking tan head and some spotty lacing. It has a nice full aroma with apples, pears, a touch of spice, coconut and sugary malts. Interesting. The taste begins old ale like with dark fruitiness and brown sugar. It ends with white wine notes. Tasty stuff. Seems like a 9% abv brew. So abv isnít too well hidden.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle. Poured a hazy brown color. Aroma is malty, earthy, and somwhat fruity. Tastes very much like an Old Ale also tastes much bigger than it actually is at 6.5 ABV. Flavor is slightly sweet malt, caramel, herbal and slightly grassy. Carbonation is very nice, finishes slightly tangy.
