COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION Cask; Special - August 2002 (Gold Medal Ales series). The Anglo Saxon, Wulfric Spot, became the Godfather of Burton brewing in 1002AD by founding and funding Byreton (Burton) Abbey. Shortly afterwards, Wulfric was fatally wounded in battle with the Danes. However, our hero still continued to support the Abbey, no doubt after a beery wake, for centuries to come, from his final resting place under the north cloister floor. There was no Burton Bridge in those days just Byreton Ford. The hops in this beer were Pioneer and Progress.
