Cask, The Benjamin Huntsman, Sheffield. Wetherspoon Ale Festival. Mahogany colour, creamy beige head. Caramel hop aroma, mildly astringent, then a creamy bitter finish.

Cask conditioned Handpump Eastgate Northampton. A mid brown coloured beer with a whitish head. A sweet and fairly yeasty beer. Caramel notes as you’d expect. House yeast noticeable. A hint of apple and veg. Very ordinary.

Cask - The Bell Hotel (JDW), Norwich. Poured a deep ruby brown with a small, creamy & lasting medium sized white head leaving a thick lace. Damp carpet & yeast profile with a hint of mid fruit & a dryish, subtle finishing bitterness on the tongue. Light to medium body, soft palate texture. Not enjoyable.

Cask conditioned at a Wetherspoons. Brown with cream head. Smoothly sweet and cloying, quite fruity edging towards tart, overripe. Thin in the close. Disappointing.

Very average I’m afraid. Sweet maltyness to this beer with a slight bitter finish. Its drinkable but its average.

(Cask at Southampton Arms, London) A below average brown ale. There were no flaws but I was hoping something more. Perhaps bit more roastedness and some molasses would have done the thing. Now, the beer was an bit unbalanced combination of sweetness and malts.

12th November 2008. Clear brown beer. Low carbonation. A little dusty. Lightly tangy nutty malt. Not much hoppy fruit but slightly bitter aftertaste. Nothing special unfortunately!

UPDATED: SEP 22, 2011 Cask at Crosse Keys Spoons. Pale chestnut, lasting thin ivory head. Perfumed aroma. Some dry/choc malt in mouth. Bit of bleachy aicdity is off putting. OK stab at a brown ale. Some dryness on finish. 2.4/5.0 re rate jdw ashford 22092011. its better. Still not great but not the bleach i had before

Cask at Secklow Hundred (JDW), Milton Keynes. Copper amber with a small white head. Sweet fruity aroma. I almost thought I caught some raspberry. Dull malty taste with a mid bitter finish. Nothing special.

A Mes rate: cask at Baker St. ’Sporks.<\i>
Dirty golden brown with a thin off white head. Reasonable balance in the aroma but the notes of stinkfoot and boiled eggs do it no favours. Flavour is just about ok. Mineral accented brown ale with a dusty finish and a medicinal aftertaste. Not a cracker by any means.
