Cask, hand-pulled, Crystal Palace, sweet fruity aroma, golden amber with a bubbly off-white head, excellent lacing, nutty, German lager malt with an American hop twist, sweet, creamy, very well balanced and easy to drink

Cask. Spicy hops predominate in a pleasant aroma. Colour honey gold and paler in the light. I guess the pale malts and extra hops tell in the end. Taste well it fills and coats with a metallic edge to the first sip and good resinous palate. Better than many. And deceptively strong. I would try again if offered.

Cask at the Sir Michael Balcon, JDW - Ealing, London. Pours clear gold with a frothy-creamy white head. Biscuity pale malts in the nose, with a small dab of fresh butter and accents of lemon rind. Light-medium sweet flavor with more bready malts, dough, biscuits, straw, English yeast. Light bodied, creany, with fine carbonation. Finishes sweet, with more pale and bready malts, dough, very faint buttered biscuit, yeast, slight lemony citrus. Tasty enough gold.

Cask at The Green Dragon, Leek (JDW) A clear golden colour with a thin white head. Aroma is herbal and citrusy plus biscuit, grain and bubblegum. Taste of citrusy fruit like pear and apple, biscuit, yeast, some bubblegum and a little sourness. Light bodied and sticky texture. A short, fruity finish with some bitterness. Drinkable but not the taste I was expecting.

Gravity cask at Bedford Beer Festival. Light, almost straw colour. Nose dominated by sulphur with some Lotus biscuit spread in toast. Tastes less exciting than I’d hoped: astringent bittersweet with increased bitterness on the finish. There is a wave of sulphur in the aftertaste. It’s great to have a properly well-crafted Burton beer but the sulphur notes, while gentle and balanced, are still too much for me.

On tap at Branston Country Club, pours a clear copper with a small beige head. Nose is light, with crackery malt and light English hops. Flavour is smooth and restrained, with crackery malt and very light floral hops. Smooth palate and easy to drink. Decent stuff.

My review could be a carbon copy of the last review. I however DO like golden beers. I had this as a fresh pint (first of the barrel) at the Clarendon. Golden colour, caramel nose. Nice. Not as hoppy as I was expecting but nice! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
